Making pins

All pins used in everything in the 18th century and before were split or riven as shown here. Not always but mostly in the 17th century the pins had a roundly faceted (chiseled) form. In the 18th century many pins, maybe the majority had an oval shape with two pointed edges as shown. They were shaped that way purposely. The pins formed the hole! Look closely. Very tight.
