Raised panel making. Three shoulder or rabbit planes I use

The rule of the shop is: All surfaces that should be hand planed, and have hand saw marks, must be and have; there are no machine tool marks left, seen or unseen! Fortunately today my apprentices are electric, i.e. all preliminary general millwork is machine done. I wouldn't have a body left that I could use without them! I use these three planes shown to finish the feather edges - a 3/8", a 3/4" and a 1 7/8". For the end grain I first pare off the shoulder (slightly beveled) with a 2" bench chisel that has a long blade. Then I use the 1 7/8" rabbit plane only (on that end grain) which has a skewed angled blade to plane that grain. It finishes the end grain off to a glass like finish. I know there will be viewers who will ask why I don't use a panel-raiser plane ? I may someday. >
