These next several pictures will show how the heart was carved and the diagonal muntins were fitted. Remember that the end of each muntin has a tenon and must be coped to fit the inner radius of the arch and the radius of the heart, no easy task ! I want to restate that the whole arched part of the original door at Yale is cut out and carved from one single wide board and thus has many breaks that are now reinforced with iron strapping - this needed improved construction !
