This Cupboard is a replica of the Rose House Cupboard built in North Branford, CT. between 1750-1775, and since at least the 1930's has been in the Garvan Collection at the Yale University Art Gallery, New Haven, Ct. I've made three changes of significance: There is no shell in the original top, it has a smooth carved out dome with a large rosette placed in the center. This cupboard deserved and 'needed' a carved shell in the top. I also added two more rosettes on the angled pilasters, and, I reworked the construction of the arched section of the door which includes the Heart, significantly. This heart in the door is original to the cupboard and exists in no other Shell Cupboard in the 18th century and is certainly beautiful and unique. 2000. Rutland County, Vt.
