New York Slat Back Armchair, 1640-1700

$ 3500
Size: 49 1/2" tall, OA width 25 1/2", OA depth 18 1/2"

This armchair is a replica of the original at the Winterthur Museum in Del. - with alterations: the height of the back legs was increased 3", the radius to the curves on the top slat was restored, and the side and back stretchers have the same turned design as the front stretcher. Also, the loose ring turnings on the medial stretcher above the seat (missing on the original) have been added. The arm supports and the seat stretchers are hickory, the legs, slats and stretchers are maple. The chair is colored a light brown with a linseed oil and beeswax finish, and has a two over two pattern woven splint seat that is colored as well. Note that O A means over all, not stretcher length between the legs.
